Probably Victorian. Built with no 24 and the Gazette office. Note the rounded dormer windows and the purple and grey slates making a pattern on the roof (L Hurley)

2013: MCC Planning No: DC/2013/00589. Alt. Ref. No: PP-02770592v1. Approval granted to Miss Vicki Horler for the installation of a fire escape in the courtyard area to the rear of the property. The stairwell was to be 3.8m in height, constructed from mild steel with a powder coat finish. Approval issued 04/09/2013.

1993: MCC Planning No: 36051 Alt. Ref. No: DC/1993/00215. Change of use of the Ground Floor Shop & Premises from Retail of Furniture & Furnishings to Coffee Shop and Art Gallery. Approval issued to Mr Frederick Alan Long 0n 02/06/1993. The Planning Permission included the following statements as part of the Reasons: 2. The approved rear extension to this property enabled the floorspace of these premises to extended considerably. Permission is granted solely on the basis that it is the re-use of an existing premises. The implementation of both permissions would result in the introduction of a substantially sized commercial premises which would be detrimental to the residential amenities of adjoining properties. 3. The rear garden of these premises adjoins those of neighbouring properties. Its use for commercial purposes would seriously detract from the privacy and quiet residential amenity of neighbouring properties.

1990: MCC Planning No: 32763. Alt. Ref. No: DC/1990/00726. Approval issued to M/S J Carver on 03/10/1990 for change of use of first floor rear from residential to Retail Hair & Beauty Salon.

1954: Mrs A. M. Heins of Abergavenny wrote a letter to the Western Mail titled ” An Idea for Hotel Keepers”. The letter related the experience of a party of tourists in Sweden who were waited on by girls dressed in national costume. Mrs Heins suggestion was that hotels in Wales should adopt the same practise and also suggested that Welsh airs should be played on the harp during dinner. [Western Mail 04/10/1954].

1895: Advertisement

1889: An advertisement appeared in the Abergavenny Chronicle advertising a “Large American Organ, Beautiful stops”. The item was being sold by Heins & Co. for 12 Guineas cash. [Source: Abergavenny Chronicle 19/04/1889}.

1881: The property was occupied by Mr George A Heins (Age 29) and his wife Louisa Phoebe (Age 28) together with an infant son and daughter and a servant. Mr Heins described his occupation as Pianoforte Tuner and Musical Instrument Maker. [Source: 1881 Census]

1881: Mrs Heins of the Music Warehouse placed a ‘Wanted’ notice in the Abergavenny Chronicle seeking to recruit a ‘Strong Girl of Good Character’ to act as a General Servant. [Abergavenny Chronicle 12/08/1881].
