About the Building
Information from Abergavenny Local History Society Survey 1980:
Early 1900s, possibly c1890 (see also 11 Monk Street*)
There is what looks like a baker’s oven in the cellar. The stone-framed mullioned blocked-up window in the passage to the right of the shop, looks medieval [Source:B M Pullen]
The Edwardian brick frontage only goes back a few feet into the building. Note terracotta urns and “streaky bacon” effect.
- The see also reference to No 11 Monk Street doesn’t appear to be linked to this building. [Note added 9/11/2025]

Other Information
Dixons bought Currys in 1984 and continues to trade as two separate brands. They continued to trade as Currys Electrical retailers in Abergavenny.
Information from Abergavenny Local History Survey 1980:
From 1923-1934 : W E Pope, Florist and Nurseryman had a shop up the alleyway between 13 and 14 High Street.
The brook was accessible from here – this was the “moat” outside the town wall, continuing to Mill Street.
Zachariah Wheatley, occupier in 1920, was also JP for Castle Ward. He retired in November 1921. This was his private residence as well as his shop.
In 1862 and 1865, Mrs Catherine Daniel, butcher, is also shown at this property.
