About the Building

Probably 18th century, note long and short quoins and cornice simila to Rother House, Nevill Street. (L Hurley)

1990: MCC Planning No. 32285 Alt. Ref. No: DC/1990/00244. Applroval issued to ‘Get Connected’ for the Conversion of a Retail Storage Area to Living Accommodation. Issued 17/05/1990.

1986: MCC Planning No. 27182 Alt. Ref. No: DC/1986/01273. Extension to Shop. Approval issued to Claude Stephens on 17/12/1986 for the construction of a single storey extension to the shop for storage purposes. External walls to match existing building.

Recent History

January 2024 : The Frogmore Street Gallery (previously Court Cupboard Gallery) now permanent at this address. A ‘Not for Profit’ co-operative run by members of the Black Mountain Circle group of artists and crafts people.

December 2023 : Court  Cupboard Gallery : Temporary gallery until Xmas 2023.  This Gallery, for around 25 years located in a lovely barn at New Court Farm, Llantilio Pertholey with views of Skirrid, is having to move from that site due to the sale of the adjoining farm and properties.

Other Information

1901: There was a “To Let” advertisement published in the Abergavenny Chronicle referencing Mr Luther Davies, Solicitor as the contact at 20 Frogmore Street. [Source: Abergavenny Chronicle 09/08/1901].

1921: The property was occupied by Mr Percy R. Fraser with his brothers Mr Frederick George Fraser and Mr Frank Herbert Fraser. Frederick Fraser recorded his occupation as Night Telephonist and Office Cleaner. Percy Fraser and his brother Frank worked as Seedsmen from the premises. [1921 Census].

1942: Advert. for young lady assistant or girl leaving school, business not stated. [ALHS Survey 1980]

1881: The building was occupied by Mrs Elizabeth R. Francis (Age 49) who was a widow with no recorded occupation together her sister Mary Ann Barlow (Age 66). There were also three sons and a young daughter. Arthur Francis, the middle son, was recorded as a photographer operating from this address. [Source 1881 Census].

1866: Advertisement for a Piano Cottage 6 7/8 octaves. Cost £21 (Reduced from £30 six months back).Also a 12 stop Harmonium £23. Seller C. Francis at 20, Frogmore Street.[Source: Hereford Journal 17/11/1866].
