About the Building
Edwardian imposed on an old shell, around 1879. (L Hurley)
The 23 inner walls were removed in 1967/68 to create Richard’s Department Store.
A fire broke out on the 10th November 2024 and destroyed the entire building. It was later demolished.

Recent History
2020 : sometime during this pandemic year, the windows of the ex Richards Department Store was used for display of furniture from Timothy Oulton (Clearance) (shop in Mill Street)
April 2019 : Baileys Dept Store closed – this large shop had been present for 4 years, but gave up probably due to the roadworks and pedestrianisation of the lower end of Frogmore Street which had started in late 2018 and still going on mid 2019 (Baileys run DIY store & garage, Brecon Rd & DIY store in Ross)
From approx 2015 : Baileys Dept Store – homeware, toys, furniture (part of Baileys, diy store & garage)
From April 1947 to ?? approx 2014: Richards Department Store

The roundel “Richards” sign was once the George Hotel Inn Sign at no 47. Similar roundels were made for other shops.
