About the Building

Formerly called Magnolia House, Priory Close.

Listed Building Grade II No: 2441

Priory Close– this building was Grade II Listed on 1 November 1974: see https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/300002441-priory-close-abergavenny

The house was joined to a cottage which backed onto it. Evidenced by wide internal walls through which passages and doors have been cut.

It has an interesting stone front and sections of stone window, possibly from the Priory of St Mary’s.

The gardens curled around the back of Magnolia Terrace, crossed the stream and backed onto the Market (see map with 24A). The entrance to the terrace was through the passageway and the door A in the 1920s. Source: Mr Dorrell.

It has a small single storey annexe to its left (no 8 Monk Street). Previously Heritage Monuments, containing headstones, now vacant (September 2016).

Other Information

“I bought number ’10 Monk street’ on 9th October 2014 (it had been empty for over a year). The previous owner was Mrs. Annette Lees, who left it to the church in her will and it went to auction, where I bought it. Much work was needed.

It is a grade 2 listed building,

Here are photos of some features !”
