Other Information

In 1993, advert in Abergavenny Chronicle shows 14 Cross Street as “Mock Lobster” selling gifts, clothing, soft furnishings

From Abergavenny Local History Survey 1980:

Receipt dated 1900 (A/4649-0) from Sydney Williams, Saddler.  Original survey also has copy of a receipt c.1895 “Alfred Williams, Saddler &  Harness Maker.  Next to the Angel Hotel, 14 Cross Street, Abergavenny.   Saddlery & Harness at Stores’ prices.  Patronage respectfully solicited.   The best workmanship only.”

During WW2, there was a doughnut bar for GI’s here, (part of the Angel Hotel)  known as the American Donut Dugout- “sometimes a very wild place” (Mr Salter).
