From Abergavenny Local History Survey 1980: 

From Gabb MSS:  “1869 : mortgage of James Gilbert Price the younger, and James Gilbert Price senior and Elizabeth Edwards”  “All that parcel of ground formerly gardens, half acre, in Cross Street Ward Abergavenny abutted by Cross Street by a dwelling house lately of James Price [this is no.18] now of John Edward Price, messuage formerly called The Old Playhouse formerly the property of John James of Abergavenny Carpenter and a street leading from Cross Street to Castle Street on all sides”.

“On this parcel of land, John Cadogan erected 5 houses occupied by Allen Long, Thomas Evans &  Co, Margaret Wilcox, James Loveland and Thomas Evans & Co.   Then occupied by Henry Thomas and Thomas Evans and his under-tenants and now by Mary Evans and her under-tenants”.

From 1947 occupied (?owned) by John Fulgoni, Optician and later by his son G.F.A. Fulgoni.

In 1947, occupied by Mr & Mrs Rees, as “house and shop”.

From 1939-1945 : occupied by hairdresser by the name of Lloyd.

From Abergavenny Local History Survey 1980: 

Owner in 1858 : James W Secretan, is buried in St Teilo’s Church, Llantilio Pertholey.  He fought a case over the monopoly of the gas works

In 1851 the firm of Evans & Long occupied 16 and 17 Cross Street and employed 130 men (source : Census)

From Abergavenny Chronicle adverts :

1948 : advert for Rees hairdressing salon, “double fronted premises for sale by auction 21 September

1952 : C M Lea, optician (? was working for Mr Fulgoni who is stated to have occupied premises since 1947).  Ads appear for   ” C M Lea in 1956 and 1957.  There is also an ad for a chiropodist who presumably also worked on the same premises

1988 onwards : adverts for GFA Fulgoni, opticians
