About the Building

Information from Abergavenny Local History Society Survey 1980:

Demolished in 1977, due to large cracks in the fabric. The area became known as “Red Square” due to the colour of the girders used to shore up the buildings.

There were originally three lock-up shops (see also nos 25 and 25A)

No.26 pre-1978

Recent History

In 2015 H J Edwards & Sons, butchers, applied for planning permission for a new shopfront and frontage extension.  This included both Flannel and High Street frontages of the building.  Permission was granted. See 2016 photo below of redesigned Flannel and High Street frontages.  [Source: Monmouthshire Planning application no: DC/2015/00388]
