About the building

Source : Abergavenny Local History Society Survey  1980:

(with nos 47 and 49)  Late 18th or early 19th century   (Source : Welsh Office)

Glazing bars intact (source : Welsh Office)

Projecting, bracketed eaves cornice. Hipped slate roof (Source :  Welsh Office)

There is a cellar with blocked arches leading into the George Hotel (no.49)

The interior is much older than the frontage which, with that of nos 47 and 49, was rebuilt in the latter part of the 18th century, about 8 feet in front of the previous half-timbered building (this can be seen from the roof structure).

Recent history

May 2021 : Head Room ladies hairdresser now closed, date could be 2020 or 2021;  as possibly did not re-open post lockdowns

Due to reconstruction of ex Great George PH, the building is covered in scaffolding in early 2016, but still appears to be trading as Head Room ladies hairdresser –

1993 : advert in Abergavenny Chronicle for Cooks Galley, cookshop. This eventually (?date) moved to its present site in Nevill Street
